Kalamazoo- It’s official! The “Kalamazoo Chinese New Year Celebration” is set to take place on January 28, 2017, 7PM at the Chenery Auditorium. For those who are wondering, this is the year of the Rooster.

Like last year, we expect a great turn out from our community, CAGK members and sponsors. Tickets can be purchased by members and non-members at Pacific Rim, Hunan Gardens, (KCA) Kalamazoo Chinese Academy and (KCC) at Kalamazoo Chinese Christian Church.

CAGK has always worked tirelessly to bring in ongoing noteworthy speakers and performers and this year is no exception. We are fortunate to have “Miss Michigan” Arianna Quan (2016) and current State Representative Stephanie Chang, co-founder and past president of Asian and Pacific Islander American Vote-Michigan. You may remember reading about Representative Chang in our last newsletter under the heading “Did You Know?” Both are joining us from Detroit area. We will also have a Chinese organisation performing from the city of St Joe, Michigan as well. CAGK is happy to bring people in from the east and west end of the state to share the Chinese culture and traditions.

As in the past, we have a notable amount of talented local performers that will be making a major impact on the event. We cannot emphasise enough how much our local Chinese and non-Chinese community contributes to this noteworthy celebration. They are the foundation and what keep us going year after year. With such a great line-up, you are assure to have a wonderful, exciting, positive, enjoyable time.

06/05/16: Thank you for all guests attending the CAGK Annual Summer Picnic!

On Saturday, June 4, 2016 was the annual CAGK Picnic.  Held at the Oshtemo Park, members and guest were entertained by the large array of Chinese food, In particular, the flavorful roast duck provided by Great Wall of China restaurant and the delicious Zhong Zi in celebrating Dragon Boat Festival later followed by some delightful watermelon"

CAGK also provided a variety of obstacles games for the children, along with prizes and other goodies. With everyone’s busy schedules, this picnic provided community members an opportunity to meet and greet with one another. It also provided a chance for CAGK members’ to renew their membership as well.

The end of the picnic was highlighted with a traditional Chinese Dragon dance that dazzled and entertained everyone present at the park.

With many members vocalizing their satisfaction of the Oshtemo Park, it appears to be the ideal place for the picnic for year to come, especially considering its many amenities it has to offer. We trust you all had a great time and invite you back for next years picnic.

Until then, have a great fulfilling summer.
